waterweed Drops the Opening Theme ‘Cure’ for the Anime “The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic”!

From a time when genres like post-hardcore and screamo were yet to be recognized, and the term “loud” was not even coined, the underground heroes “waterweed” have been leading the scene. With a successful European tour under their belt, they’ve been resonating hardcore sounds both domestically and internationally for a long time.

Amidst growing acclaim for their historical CD “Deep inside + Unknown best,” which was conceived out of a desire to introduce more people to waterweed, the band dropped the digital single ‘Cure’ on January 31 (Wednesday). They also released a visualizer alongside it.

‘Cure’ is the opening theme for the TV anime “The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic,” which started airing on January 5. This song is creating buzz, marking waterweed’s second consecutive anime theme song contribution following their previous track ‘Deep inside.’

“The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic” follows the story of an ordinary high school student, Usato Ken (Usato), who, along with the student council president Inukami Suzune (Suzune) and his classmate Ryuzen Kazuki (Kazuki), gets swallowed by a sudden magical circle on his way home and finds himself in another world, facing unimaginable hellish training…

The opening theme ‘Cure’, created by waterweed, who have continued to be active in the real music scene, showcases a deep and fresh band sound. It reflects the evolution of their “roots” in melodic hardcore, a genre they have always been exploring.

Comment from Tomohiro Ohga (Ba/Vo)

“In gaining something, we lose another; I’ve crossed countless nights. Regrets, I’ve washed away with sweat and tears. How to give up? I’ve long since forgotten. Even if scars remain, as long as I can laugh at the very end, that’s all that matters. This song is like my musical life. I see myself in Usato, who keeps rising and challenging again and again. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. I hope it resonates with everyone’s heart.”
